Kids get creative for a hunger-free world

Results of World Food Day 2012 poster contest announced

Kids get creative for a hunger-free world

Who says adults call all the shots?  Children and young people were recently invited to weigh in on hunger and food security in an international poster contest.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the United Nations Women’s Guild in Rome, Italy, asked future global citizens to use their creativity to interpret and illustrate this year’s World Food Day theme: “agricultural cooperatives: key to feeding the world.”

The contest gave children and young people an opportunity to reflect on one of the world’s most pressing problems, understand the value of cooperation and teamwork, and share their creative visions with others.  A wealth of imaginative and inspiring submissions highlighted the role of cooperatives in improving food security and helping to end hunger.

The contest drew some 3,621 posters from 72 countries around the world.  Winning designs came from Barbados, Central African Republic, Gabon, India, Italy and Malaysia.
