In the third episode of Hungry Planet, legendary ex-Barcelona FC striker Hristo Stoitchkov visits a community in Burkina Faso in the process of recovering from the 2009 flooding. Joined by other soccer greats, Stoitchkov cheers up the local children and draws attention to the contentious need to support these people until they become fully self-sufficient again.
The video shows two more interesting examples of applying innovative techniques to increase food security. In Egypt, a social experiment has been taking place to recruit unemployed graduates as farmers and let them cultivate the desert. Hassan, a former accountant, shows that it is possible to run a successful apricot farm in a desert.
